DHAKA: Inspector-General of Police Nur Mohammad Monday raised a riddle over ward councilor and BNP leader Chowdhury Alam’s disappearance as he said it could be an act of “sabotage” centering “business conflict” or next Dhaka City Corporation election.
“Investigation is underway and whereabouts of Chowdhury Alam can only be ascertained after investigation,” the police boss told journalists in the wake of latest developments over the issue.
The IGP made the remarks after a meeting with Home Minister Sahara Khatun at the Home Ministry, shortly after a High Court order for him and the chief of the elite-force RAB to act immediately to trace Chy Alam.
Earlier in the day, the High Court directed the chiefs Police and elite-force Rapid Action Battalion to take immediate legal steps to rescue the opposition BNP leader and Dhaka city councilor.
Chowdhury Alam went missing from the city`s Farmgate area on June 25.
Replying to a query about the arrest of war criminals, Nur Mohammad said some arrests were made on the basis of specific allegations.
“The suspected war criminals who could not be arrested yet are now under strict vigilance of law enforcers,” he said.
Answering another question he said they have no list of war criminals in hand.
“Investigation team of the International Tribunal formed for the trial of war criminals will prepare the list and we will get it after preparation,” the IGP said
