Expatriate dies, 14 family members fall sick in food poisoning in Habiganj

HABIGANJ: A septuagenarian expatriate died and 14 others of his family members fell sick in food poisoning at Gobdevpur village in Nabiganj upazila Monday night, hours after their arrival in the homeland.

The deceased was identified as Nur Mia Chowdhury, 70.

Nur Mia’s wife Selina Begum, 55, sons Shahed, 32, Javed, 25, Alamgir, 18, Mostak, 16, daughter-in-law Lovely Begum, 25, daughter Helena, sister-in-law Monwara Begum, 28, and six grand children were admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital Tuesday morning.

Family sources said Nur Mia came back home with his family members on Monday after five years.

Police quoting relatives said after taking meal at night they all went to bed. But, after sometime, they all fell sick with vomiting and abdomen pain, they added.

At one stage, Nur Mia died.

Meanwhile, mystery shrouded, as all the three servants have remained physically well.

Goplar Bazaar Police Camp in charge Yasinul Haq confirmed the incident and said police visited the spot.
