PABNA: Bodies of three policemen reportedly shot dead by gunmen in Bera upazila of the district were recovered on Tuesday night.
The dead were identified as SI Kafil Uddin, 46, of Chilmari in Kurigram, corporal Abdul Wahed, 27, of Sariakandi in Bogra and constable Shafiqul Islam, 31, of Ullapara in Sirajganj.
Local sources said ‘extremists’ sprayed bullets on a police team in the remote Dhalar Char Bazar area after the arrest of a member of an outlaw party.
Police Super Jamil Ahmed from the spot of the incident on Wednesday told banglanews24.com.bd that they have recovered the bodies of the three policemen.
The primary report of killing of Abdul Ghani, a source of police in the same incident later came false, said SP Pabna.
“Abdul Ghani is alive”, he said banglanews24.com.bd over cell phone.
Meanwhile, State Minister for Home Affairs Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku, Inspector General of Police Nur Mohammad and Director General of RAB Hasan Mahmud Khandakar visited Pabna on Wednesday morning.
Official version of the killing is yet to be served.
Local people said a three-member team of plainclothes police from Aminpur police camp detained an extremist from Daspara Char under Masumdia union at around 8pm.
The extremists sprayed bullets on police to snatch away their comrade from police custody, local people added.
Masumdia UP chairman Shomej Ali said the shooting spree took place and he heard about the deaths.
