DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wednesday told parliament that the government would declare the wage structure for garment workers within the current month, as it emerged as a matter of urgency in the wake of recurrent labour unrest.
Replying to a supplementary question from Shahin Manwara Haque, the Prime Minister apprised the lawmakers of the government decision.
Drawing attention of the garment owners, Hasina said, “They should bear in mind that they have earned huge amounts of money using the labour of garment workers."
They should give a portion of the money to the workers, she added.
Replying to another supplementary question from Tajul Islam, Hasina blamed previous BNP-led four-party alliance government for the existing power shortages that caused a decline in investment in the country.
“They did not produce a single megawatt of power but made money through corruption and looting,” said the premier to the parliament.
She said her government has widened opportunities for foreign investment in the country, including power sector, after assuming power.
