DHAKA: The budget session of parliament ended Thursday with the prorogation order from the President, after a long run since June 2.
Deputy speaker Shawkat Ali, who was in the chair, read out the prorogation order after the valedictory speech made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina capping the session.
Apart from the budget, a total of 34 bills were placed in the 33-day 5th session of the current parliament and 24 of those were passed.
On June 10, Finance minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith tabled the Tk 1,32000 crore budget, which was later passed on June 30 through over 40 hours of discussion.
Besides, a 15-member committee proposed by premier Sheikh Hasina was formed Wednesday in this session for amending the constitution.
The main opposition BNP joined the budget session on June 2, the first day, but walked out twice later and abstained during the rest of the session.
