DHAKA: LGRD and Cooperative Minister Syed Ashraful Islam expressed apprehension that a vested quarter might instigate garment workers during the holy month of Ramadan and create unrest.
“Some vested quarter could instigate labour unrest during the holy month of Ramadan. So lawmakers and pourasva chairmen were requested to remain alert,” he said after a joint-meeting of the MPs of Dhaka, Narayanganj and pourasava chairmen at the Secretariat Thursday.
Asked if he had any specific allegation, the Minister said, “We do not have any information about it. But we have asked to remain alert”.
The meeting took place on two agenda – activating the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) to control the price spiral of essentials during Ramadan and alerting the pourasava chairmen of over possible labour unrest.
