DHAKA: Robbers injured a couple and looted cash money and gold ornaments from their house in the city’s Rampura early Saturday.

Quoting the injured, caretaker Jahangir Hossain said a gang of 7-8 robbers stormed into the building at 176/7 East Ulon at about 4am breaking open the main gate.

They went upstairs and pushed the call bell of the second floor flat of Mizanur Rahman, a Germany expatriate who returned home few days ago.

As house master Rahman opened the door, the gang hacked him on his head with lethal weapons. Hearing Rahman’s screams, as his wife Rita Begum came for his help, the robbers also injured her.

The dacoits then confined them into a room and looted 1,400 Euro, cash money, gold ornaments and other valuables worth about Tk 5 lakh. Later, they left the house with the booty without any hindrance.

Injured Mizanur Rahman, 45, and Rita Begum, 35, were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

A case was filed with the local police station. But none was arrested in this connection so far.

Other tenants of the building, however, said they remained unaware about the robbery as they did not hear any sound or screams.

Operation officer of Rampura thana SI Mizanur Rahman said police were sent to the spot.
