DHAKA: Environment and Forest Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud Tuesday voiced concern over the fate of the Cancun Conference on climate change for delay in disbursement of funds committed by the developed nations.
"The conference may not see desired outcome if the developed countries delay disbursement of funds that they had committed to fight the climate change," he told a workshop.
The world leaders of mostly developed nations during the Copenhagen conference last year had promised the vulnerable countries a $30 billion fund to tackle climate change related risks.
"The developed nations are yet to do the needful," Hasan said.
Network on Climate Change Bangladesh- a platform of NGOs working on the issue organized the workshop titled "Voice of Vulnerable People to Combat Climate Change" at Brac Centre.
The US had pledged Bangladesh to offer Tk 200 crore while the EU offered Tk 770 crore so that Bangladesh can cope with the risks, he said.
He said a climate change wing will be opened under the ministry.
