COX’S BAZAR: A speeding bus drove over a private car carrying holidaymakers on the Cox’s Bazar-Chittagong Highway in Chokoria Upazila Tuesday, killing three members of a family and their driver.

The deceased were identified as Abul Bashar, 75, of Khulshi in Chittagong, his wife Kohinur Begum, 65, their daughter Nasima Akhter, 50, and car-driver Nayan, 40.

Chokoria thana OC Mohammad Jasim Uddin said a Chittagong-bound chair-coach of Saudia Paribahan rammed the car in Harbang area at about 3:30pm, killing all the four on the spot.

A close relative of the deceased, Mainuddin, who was in the car, said Abul Bashar and his family members, in a motorcade of 7/8 cars, were going to the Bay resort town of Cox’s Bazar from Chittagong for vacationing.

“The speeding bus crashed into the car carrying the victims while it was entering the wayside Inani Resort restaurant,” Mainuddin said, narrating the tragedy in tears.

He suffered minor injuries and miraculously survived the fatal accident while all the rest in the car perished, allegedly for rash driving of the bus.

On information, Baniachhara Highway police rushed in to the rescue of the victims. They retrieved the bodies from the twisted car. Police seized the accident-ridden vehicles.
