SAVAR: The administration Wednesday knocked down some establishments owned by opposition leader Khaleda Zia at North Ramchandrapur near the National Memorial during a demolition drive.
Bulldozers and excavators of Roads and Highways department bulldozed the establishments on an 18-decimal plot of land in the presence of police and RAB personnel, witnesses said.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Savar Sharifuzzaman said they conducted an eviction drive following a case filed by advocate Mohammad Ali and others who won a legal battle over the patch of land.
Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan told banglanews24.com.bd that the establishments of the former premier were demolished “deliberately”.
“According to the verdict, establishments of Prime Minister’s uncle and former Army Chief late General Mustafizur Rahman should have been demolished. But that part of the land remained untouched," he said.
Late President Ziaur Rahman bought the land for his wife at a cost of Tk 9,000 way back in 1973.
