DHAKA: The government would take opinion from the public and local representatives before implementing the much-debated Detailed Area Plan (DAP) for the capital, said LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam Wednesday.
He made the remark while chairing the maiden meeting of the cabinet committee on implementation of the DAP at the Housing and Public Works Ministry.
State Minister for Housing and Public Works Advocate Abdul Mannan Khan briefed journalists after the meeting of the high-power committee formed for vetting the plan that stirred protests from locals, particularly in nearby Gazipur district.
Mannan Khan said they would revise the gazette after eliciting opinion from the members of the public and local representatives, if necessary.
“The government wants to implement DAP in a democratic way," said the state minister, calling for assistance for avoiding any confusion over the mega-scheme meant for a planned development and expansion of the capital city.
“We will take final decision at the next meeting," he said.
Land Minister Rezaul Karim Hira, Water Resources Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen, Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, State Minister for Environment and Forests Dr Hasan Mahmud, Chairman of RAJUK Engineer Muhammad Nurul Huda and Chairman of the University Grants Commission Professor Nazrul Islam attended the meeting.
