DHAKA: A suspected terrorist was killed in a reported “shootout” between his cohorts and Rapid Action Battalion personnel in the city’s Sayadabad area early Friday.
Police said deceased Anwar Hossain alias ‘Pichhi Hannan’, 35, hailed from Jangalia village in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj district, was wanted in about a dozen cases. The cases, including of murder, robbery and mugging, were pending with Jatrabari, Sutrapur and Motijheel thanas.
Acting on secret information that armed terrorists gathered for committing subversive act, a team
of Rab-10 unit, led by DAD Delwar Hossain, raided Balur math area adjacent to Sayedabad bus
terminal at about 2:40am, Rab sources said.
“As the team of crime busters reached near the rail line, the terrorists opened fire on them. In retaliation, the RAB men also fired back in self-defence, forcing the terrorists to retreat,” Rab said in a spot account of the encounter.
Later, Jatrabari thana police recovered the body of Hannan from the scene. A revolver, a shutter gun and two bullets were also recovered from the place.
