Industrial unrest: 7 RMG workers arrested

SAVAR: Police arrested seven garment workers in a case of looting arms and wireless from law enforces during the agitation for minimum wages at Tk 5000 in Ashulia area.

They are Biplob, 20, Masud, 24, Raju, 22, Amir Hossain, 24, Anisur Rahman Anis, 26, Mossharaf Hossain, 25, and Kamrul Hasan Anawar, 20.

A special team of police arrested them in a drive in different places of Ashulia from Friday to Saturday night.

Investigation Officer Sub-Inspector Mohammad Rafiqul Islam of Ashulia Thana said, "We have got important information from the accused."

He hoped that they would be able to recover the looted arms very soon.

Several hundred workers vandalized and looted Envoy Group factories in Jumgora area on July 31 over the government-declared minimum wage for the RMG workers.

The belligerent workers had beaten up SP Iqbal Bahar of Dhaka district, his bodyguard Ruhul Amin, OC Sirazul Islam and SI Shahin Parvez of Ashulia Thana.

Later, the workers snatched one nine-MM pistol, two magazines, 30 bullets and a wireless set from them.
