DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked the authorities concerned to take quick initiative to resolve the existing power crisis across the country, as outages showed little signs of a letup.
The Prime Minister gave the directives at the regular cabinet meeting Monday when three ministers of her cabinet emphasised the need for improving the power-supply situation before the holy month of Ramadan.
Hasina also asked for ensuring smooth power supply during Iftar and Sehri so that the pious Muslims do not feel any difficulty.
“You must ensure, at any cost, that the fasting Muslims do not face any trouble,” she said in her strongly worded instructions.
The PM also directed that initiative must be taken for speedy implementation of all investment proposals for power generation, as the country reels from huge electricity shortages.
Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad, State Minister for Law and Justice Kamrul Islam and State Minister for Local Government Jahingir Kabir Nanak were learnt to have raised the matter of power problem.
