Indictment against 448 Pilkhana jawans on Oct 24, 25

DHAKA: A special court established at Pilkhana Tuesday set October 24-25 for framing charges against 448 suspected mutineers from the BDR headquarters for their alleged involvement in last year’s mass mutiny.

After the hearing, the court-6 led by BDR Director-General Major-General Rafiqul Islam also directed the authorities concerned to produce all 337 accused from different directorates and Rifles Sports Board before the court on October 24 and 111 accused from Record Wing on October 25 for indictment.

The court started trial proceedings at 10:30 am after the horde of accused were produced in the dock. Prosecutor of the case Lt Col Kamrul Islam read out the charges against the suspects.

Later, the trial proceedings of 111 members of BDR record wing started. Prosecutor Lt. Col. Kamrul Islam again read out the charges against them.

Earlier on August 4, the court took into cognizance the offence committed by the 448 BDR men during the mutiny inside the headquarters of the border force on February 25-26 last year.

A total of 73 people, including 56 army officers in command of the paramilitary border force under the then BDR director-general Maj Gen Shakil Ahmed, were killed in the bloody mutiny at the BDR headquarters.
