DHAKA: A Dhaka court Tuesday issued summons against F Narayan Maheswar, President of World Peace Council, on charge of hurting religious sentiment through sacrilegious act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Talukder issued the summons.
Mufti Mohammad Masum Billah, President of Bangladesh Fetna Protirodh Committee, filed the case under sections 295/500/506 (Ga) of the penal code with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Emdadul Haq earlier in the day.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Talukder later subpoenaed the accused at noon after hearing of the case.
Earlier, Maheswar had filed a writ petition with the High Court claiming, ‘Hazrat Ibrahim actually wanted to sacrifice Hazrat Ishaq but in the book of Madrasha Education Board it is written mistakenly that he wanted to sacrifice Hazrat Ismail’.
He also claimed that the board could not understand the tenets of the holy Quran.
Masum Billah as plaintiff alleged that Maheswar, “claiming himself as a Muslim, petitioned the court to prove the holy Taurat and the Bible as the best”.
“He wanted to create ethnic strife intentionally through filing the writ,” Masum said.
Advocate PK Abdur Rab stood for the plaintiff.
