College teacher killed in Savar

SAVAR: A college teacher was beaten to death allegedly by his in-laws in Savar on the outskirts of the capital Friday evening.

The deceased was identified as Shah Alam Shaheen, a teacher of Computer Science at Jahangirnagar University School and college.

Quoting victim’s family members, police said Shaheen’s father-in-law Nazrul Islam Nuru alias Nuru Munshi and brother-in-law Shohag on Friday evening beat him mercilessly following a family feud, leaving Shaheen seriously injured.

He was first rushed to Savar Health Complex and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on duty doctor declared him dead at around 6:30 pm.

Shaheen had been staying in Municipality area with his wife Jannatul Akhter Jui.

Savar thana OC Mahbubur Rahman told banglanews24.com.bd police visited the residence of Shaheen after the incident but none was found there.

The deceased’s mother filed a case with Savar thana in this connection.

Meanwhile, the teachers and students of the institute formed a human chain and brought out a silent procession on Saturday morning protesting the killing.

They also held a rally and demanded exemplary punishment to those involved in the killing.
