DU students protest temple attack

DHAKA: A group of students of Dhaka University formed a human chain on Saturday on the campus at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla to protest the occupation and damage of a temple in the old Dhaka.

They also brought out a procession that marched through the campus.   

Some local people on Thursday night occupied the Sree Sree Radhakanta Jonardon  Jiu temple at South Mousundhi under Sutrapur thana evicting some 34 minority families.

Provost of the Jaganath Hall Prof. Ajoy Kumar Das and house tutor of Jagannath Hall Ashim Kumar Sarker expressed solidarity with the agitating students and joined the demonstration of around 300 students.

The students from the human chain demanded reconstruction of the temple, arrest of the illegal occupants. They also demanded exemplary punishment of the attackers and rehabilitation of the minority families and provide security to them.
