DHAKA: Detained labour leaders Babul Akhter and Kalpona Akter were Saturday remanded for four days on charge of ransacking garment industries amid chaos and arson attacks on July 30.

Magistrates of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Dr Abdul Majid and Kamrunnahar Rumi passed the orders of remand.

Earlier, metropolitan DB police intelligence officer Inspector Ziaur Rahman and Sub-Inspector of Tejgaon Thana Amzad Hossain produced them before the courts.
It was stated in the remand report that, on July 30, they went on the rampage during labour unrest in city’s Mohakhali, Gulshan and Tejgaon industrial area, a day after the government announced a new wage scale with minimum Tk 3,000 monthly payment for the garment sector.

Later, the accused were arrested from Gulshan in connection with the incident.
