DHAKA: A child was killed in a road accident in the city’s Bakhsnagar area under Shah Ali thana Tuesday, triggering public outrage against the latest instance of reckless driving.

Police and witnesses said Tripti, 7, was crushed under the wheels of a passenger bus while crossing the road at about 12:45 pm.

The bus driver fled the scene, leaving behind his vehicle after knocking down the girl in the last of a number of fatal road accidents in the capital.

“Agitated local people vandalized the bus and blocked the road, halting traffic for at least one hour,” says a spot account of the scene.

Police recovered and sent the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
