BOGRA: Workers dug up a cache of six grenades and 682 bullets in a chance find in the Eidgah field of Sutrapur in the district Tuesday.
Police said construction workers found the grenades and bullets dumped in a pot under the soil while they were working at the house of Dr Gazi Shariful Alam Chowdhury adjacent to the central Eidgah field.
One of the workers said, "I found a pot of soil under the ground, and after breaking the pot with the help of other workers we found the grenades and bullets."
Later, Alek, leader of the workers, informed police about the find.
On information, a team of police led by Arifur Rahman Mandal, Assistant Police Super, rushed in and with the help of members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recovered the deadly weapons.
AKM Khalekuzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Bogra Sadar Than, confirmed the matter of ammo haul and said police reinforcements were deployed.
Tensions built up in the area following the incident, which reminds the locals of the seizure of a truckload of weapons here some years back.
