PIROJPUR : An investigation team of the International Crimes Tribunal on Tuesday night arrived here to probe into the allegations of war crimes against detained Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee.
A source said ASP Helaluddin is leading the four-member investigation team. The team will stay at the district circuit house, but, the time of their stay here could not be known yet, he said.
ASP Helaluddin said during their stay here, the team would take deposition of the plaintiffs of the cases, witnesses and other concerned and conduct investigation at Sayedee’s village in Zianagar upazila and other places.
Two cases were filed with Sadar and Zianagar thanas in May and August last year against Delwar Hossain Sayedee for his involvement with “genocide, rape, looting and arson” at Pirojpur with a Pakistani army Captain named Ezaz during the war of Liberation in 1971.
Later, the cases were forwarded to the International Crime Tribunal.
In one case, the complainant said, “On May 8, 1972, Sayedee murdered freedom fighters Alamgir Poshari, Mahbub Poshari, Chan Mia Poshari, Jahangir Poshari and Kanchan and looted cash and gold. He also set fire to their houses.”
In another allegation, the complainant states: “Forces led by Sayedee on June 2, 1971 attacked the Hindu areas of Umedkhali village, looted cash and gold, set fire to houses and killed freedom fighters. They also handed over young girls to the Pakistani occupation forces,” the complainant added.
