BAGERHAT: Harkatul Jihad (HuJi) leader Mufti Hannan was produced before a court here on Wednesday in the sensational case of bomb attack on a meeting of Sheikh Helal Uddin MP, a cousin of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Mufti Hannan was brought to the district jail from Dhaka central jail on Tuesday midnight under a strict security.
He was produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate Md Nurunnabi on Wednesday while police asked for a seven-day remand.
The court has set Sunday for the next hearing.
Mufti Hannan was shown arrested in the case on April 7.
Investigating officer Sukuranjan Samaddar, also ASP of CID Khulna division, told banglanews24.com.bd that seven more JMB members were produced before the court in the same case.
They were: Anisuzzam alias Anis, Abu Taleb, Kalim Molla, Hasan Ali, Zillur Rahman, Nizam Uddin, Habibur Rahman and Tayeb Ali Molla.
Nine people were killed and over 50 injured in a bomb explosion at the election rally of Sheikh Helal at Khalilur Rahman College ground in Mollarhat upazila on September 23, 2001.
Upazila AL president Chowdhury Ziaul Islam Panna filed a case on the next day accusing 164 people.
The case was repealed on January 29, 2004 during the BNP-Jamaat regime.
But, the present government revived the case.
