BRTA for strict action against 20yr old vehicles

DHAKA: Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) on Wednesday recommended for stern measure against the vehicles, which were over 20 years old.

The government earlier prohibited plying of buses, minibuses and trucks in the capital, which were over 20 years old in its bid to resolving nagging traffic jam.

The BRTA authorities made the recommendation in a meeting on ‘Prevention of Road Accident and Resolving Traffic Jam of the Capital’ Communications Ministry with Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain in the chair.

The Minister said the Deputy Inspector General of Police of Dhaka has been asked to take necessary measures to keep four entry points to the capital free from congestions during the Eid-ul–Fitr.

He also asked the BRTA to handover the list of some 80,000 unfit vehicles to the DMP Commissioner for eviction.

Hossain also favoured strengthening mobile court drive to evict over 20 years old vehicles.
