COMILLA: Ninety convicted criminals, including four females, walked out of Comilla Central Jail Thursday under a government mercy.

Their time behind bars was cut short to release 1,074 prisoners from country’s prisons under an amnesty on the occasion of holy Ramadan and Eid-ul-fitr, said Comilla senior jail super Ashim Kanta Pal.

“All the released persons have already served 20 years in jail, and most of them were sentenced for murder cases,” he added.

Court found them guilty and sentenced them to life for killing wives and children, killings over land disputes, acid throwing and other serious criminal offenses.

The released inmates told banglanews24.com.bd that they would lead an honest life after returning home.
