15 hurt as BDR, mob clash

BRAHMANBARIA: At least 15 people, including jawans of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), were injured in a clash between BDR men and local people over taking photographs of smuggled goods at Brahmanbaria rail station Saturday.

Witnesses said the BDR raided Dhaka-bound Mahanagar Prabhati train and seized Indian spices as the train halted at Brahmanbaria station at 2pm.

When a photojournalist of local a daily Halchal tried to take photo, BDR men snatched his camera and beat him. Later, local people engaged in fight with BDR that left 15 injured, police said.

Chief of District Rifles Battalion Lt. Col. Abu Saleh Mohammad Golam Ambia said they were investigating into the incident.

Brahmanbaria’s Deputy Commissioner said they will sit on the issue.
