Blair meets Khaleda Zia

DHAKA: Opposition leader and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia Saturday urged the UK to continue its support for Bangladesh.

Begum Zia’s call came as she met visiting former British Prime Minister Tony Blair at the residence of British High Commissioner in Dhaka.

BNP Vice President Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, who accompanied Khaleda during the meet, said Khaleda and Blair had a friendly conversation over bilateral issues.

BNP Chairperson’s adviser Reaz Rahman and Sabih Uddin Ahmed, and British High Commissioner to Dhaka Stephen Evans were also present.

Mobin said Tony had visited Dhaka in 2002. “She requested the former British Prime Minister to continue the support to Bangladesh and help non-resident Bangladeshi community living in the UK,” he said.

During the meeting, Tony asked for Khaleda’s support over global warming.

Tony Blair and his wife Cherie Blair arrived in Dhaka on Friday on a three-day private trip. They would leave Dhaka on Sunday.
