HC reprimands Moulvibazar DC in the dock

DHAKA:  The High Court Monday reprimanded Moulvibazar’s Deputy Commissioner Md Mostafizur Rahman as the defiant DC eventually stood in the dock on a contempt charge.

An HC bench comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Sheikh Mohammah Zakir Hossain kept the district administrator standing before the court for about one and a half hours.

Thereafter, the court asked Attorney-General Mahbube Alam to inform the cabinet secretary about the disposal of the contempt case.

The HC issued contempt-of-court rule against the DC on August 11 following a petition by one Md. Zillur Mia of Moulvibazar.

Earlier, the bench had asked the DC to take revenue for a Jalmahal from Zillur Mia on April 21.

As the order went unheeded, the HC had ordered the DC to appear before the court on August 22. He still didn’t comply. The HC then issued arrest warrant against him as he did not appear before the court on the day.
