DHAKA: Detained Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee will be produced before the international crimes tribunal (ICT) on September 21 when the war-crime-trial proceedings will resume.
“The tribunal again directed the prison authorities to produce the detained Sayedee before it on September 21,” said Tribunal Registrar Mohammad Shahinur Islam to reporters Tuesday.
Justice Nizamul Haque Nasim fixed the date for the next hearing after sitting with defense lawyers and state prosecutors in his chamber at the tribunal. The two other judges of the tribunal--ATM Fazle Rabbi and AKM Jahir Ahmed--also attended the conclave.
The tribunal also fixed the same date for the hearing on the six writ petitions filed by Sayedee.
Earlier on August 10, the authorities were directed to produce Sayedee before the tribunal on Tuesday (August 24). But the date was deferred for the ongoing renovation work of the court building.
Two cases were filed with Sadar and Zianagar thanas in May and August last year against Sayedee for his alleged involvement in “genocide, rape, looting and arson” in his home-district Pirojpur in cahoots with a Pakistani army Captain named Ezaz during the war of Liberation in 1971.
Later, the cases were forwarded to the International Crimes Tribunal.
In the case statement, Sayedee has been accused of the murder of freedom fighters Alamgir Poshari, Mahbub Poshari, Chan Mia Poshari, Jahangir Poshari and Kanchan, looting valuables and setting fire to their houses on May 8, 1972.
The investigation team of the International Crimes Tribunal on August 20 completed their first-phase investigation into the allegations brought in the cases filed against him in Pirojpur. They recorded the statements of plaintiffs, 22 witnesses and people concerned after visiting the spots mentioned in the cases.
