KURIGRAM: Erosion by the River Dudhkumor has taken a serious turn in Bhurungamari upazila for last few days, threatening Sonahat Railway Bridge and Bhrungamari-Kochakata road.
Bhurungamari Upazila chairman Abdul Hai Master said a stretch of 160 km, out of 170 km, on the west side of the British period guide embankment has already disappeared into the river because of delayed start of repair works.
Bhrungamari-Kochakata road may collapse at any day, he added.
He apprehended that road communication between the seven unions of Bhurungamari and Nageshwari upazilas and country’s other parts may snapped if the bridge and the pucca road are devoured by the river.
Local public representatives blamed Water Development Board (WDB) for negligence and irregularities in embankment protection works.
WDB sources informed sand bags are being dumped in the erosion-hit areas to save the embankment.
