KhaledaÔÇÖs clarion call: get ready for anti-govt movement

DHAKA: Opposition leader and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia Saturday made a clarion call for like-minded parties and people to get ready for movement against what she said government’s misrule.

“Stand united against government misdeeds, including killings, repression, filing ‘false’ cases,” she said, citing a number of government actions, including jailing opposition leaders and workers.

The former PM, who had ruled the country in two full terms and a short-lived one, made the call at an iftar party hosted by BNP, its front organizations and like-minded parties at Hotel Purbani.

Leaders of some 30 political parties, their front organizations and professional bodies attended the party.

The BNP chief warned that the ruling party “cannot stay in power confining opposition politicians into jail”.

Directing her words of caution at the government, she also said people had witnessed how an “autocratic government was ousted” from power.

“The countrymen never accept any treaty of ‘slavery’ and let it be implemented,” said the ex-PM in her harsh words of criticism of the government-signed accords.

Among others, BNP Secretary-General Khondokar Delwar Hossain, standing committee member MK Anwar and BJP Chairman Barrister Andalib Rahman Pertha attended the party with Jagpa Chairman Shafiul Alam Pradhan in the chair.
