Four people, including an engineer, died in an explosion at a factory of Akij Food and Beverage Limited in Bahubal upazila, Habiganj, on Tuesday (Dec 31) morning.

The deceased were identified as - Mizan Gazi, 36, Mahfuz Mia, 35, and Riaz Uddin, 28. The name of the diploma engineer is yet to be identified.

The incident occurred around 9 am in the Dubai Bazar area when employees were reportedly testing gas pressure in a room, which later got collapsed due to explosion, according to police. 

Following the incident two people died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, said police.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jahirul Islam confirmed the matter.

One injured individual remains in critical condition and is receiving treatment at the hospital, he added.
